It's worth bearing in mind the fact that the Iraqis don't, on the whole, want to see allied troops prematurely withdrawn from Iraq:
Iraq's ambassador to the United States appeared at a Washington think tank Friday and echoed U.S. President Bush's pleas for the war-weary United States to give Iraqi leaders more time before withdrawing troops, while the Iraqi government's spokesman did the same during a news briefing at the White House.
Iraqi Ambassador Samir Sumaida'ie said that after the fall of the Saddam Hussein regime, Iraqis "were looking forward to a better future and were hoping the Americans would help them put their country together and build their institutions."
