This makes a refreshing change from the sort of waffle he seems to spend most of his time coming out with:

Democracy demands that the religiously motivated translate their concerns into universal, rather than religion-specific, values. It requires that their proposals be subject to argument, and amenable to reason.

That's one of the best summaries of secularism I've seen.
