The inner child
I don't mean this in a disparaging or patronising way: it's strange to see someone's childhood hurt revealed. It's in us all, deep down, to the day we die.
Everyone is a product of their upbringing, and pretty much everyone is scarred in someway or another by it - if only if it creates a sense of complacency and optimism. Such upbringings form our political and ethical views to a far greater extent than do facts and "rationality." I was merely acknowledging these facts.

I'm not sure I'd consider optimism to be a scar.
