Blog attacks

Something about these three posts from three left of centre bloggers makes my flesh creep. They have discovered that Paul Staines, aka Guido Fawkes, went bankrupt in 2003. The fig leaf for this irrelevant exposé is that Guido complains about the rising level of insolvency in the UK.

Who can blame him? People are being over-taxed into bankruptcy and even suicide at an alarming rate.

There's a lot of niggle in the relationship between Staines and these left wing bloggers. Staines was out of line to threaten Tim Ireland with libel action acouple of weeks ago. But Ireland and the other two are out of line with this creepy insinuation. Their posts had the ring of blackmail about them, in their phrasing. Ugh.

Actually, the fig leaf for this 'irrelevant' exposé is that if Guido is going to dish it out he's going to have to be prepared to take it.

He made his 'reputation' grubbing through other people's private lives. Did his implication that Mark Oaten was a paedophile not make your flesh creep in a similar manner?

Trust me, it's unpleasant at the depths he likes to swim. It's filthy down there. I didn't like it very much.

"Do unto others" and all that. As Justin points out, he's more than happy to dig around other people's private lives. But it isn't a pleasant place to be, down amongst the bottom feeders, and not somewhere I'd make a habit of visiting.

On the other hand, why shouldn't blatant homophobia and downright nastiness be occasionally countered with a bit of honest research wrapped in irony or sarcasm. It's not as if it was a lie or an unfounded insinuation.

There are also many valid reasons for looking into this, not the least of which is that there appears to be a big black hole where everybody thinks Paul Staines keeps a big pile of money.
